About
Jon Soucy is from Baltimore, Md., but has driven through and visited 49* of the 50 states as well as quite a few other countries.
He has covered daily assignments for a variety of publications including The York (Pa.) Dispatch/ York Sunday News, Delmarva Newspapers, Landmark Community Newspapers as well as a numerous freelance clients. Some of those clients include larger well-known entities such as The Washington Post, the University of Pittsburgh Press and Oxfam America. Others are known more in a local or regional sense, such as the Baltimore Skateboard Company, Maryland Life magazine and Fistolo Records.
He has also served in the U.S. Army as a combat photographer and has covered military operations in worldwide locations.
His work has been informed by the punk rock/ DIY approach and makes use of simple, clean compositional elements intersecting with lines, light and moment. The focus is on producing strong documentary and portrait work that engages the viewer with a layered and nuanced visual narrative. In the end, it comes down to exceptionally well-done visual storytelling.
Others have agreed and his work has garnered numerous awards and recognition.
He has played in several bands, has a knack for remembering the most obscure details about a vast array of subjects and is available for freelance assignments, long-term projects and can easily be talked into driving across the country in vehicles of questionable mechanical aptitude.
But also, he'd like to hear from you. Don't be shy, say hello. (And he rarely refers to himself in the third person.)
*It's Hawaii. Hawaii is the last state needed to hit all 50 and get the complete set.
